Parisian Jean Valnet, M.D., a naturopathic researcher, reports that an essential oil applied to the skin can pass into the bloodstream and diffuse throughout the body’s systems in 30 minutes or less.

More recent studies have also documented the ability of essential oils to penetrate the stratum corneum (the upper layer of the skin) to reach the subdermal tissues and blood vessels beneath. (Huang et al., 1999; Ogiso et al., 1995.)

How to Use Essential Oils on the Feet

One drop of oil is often all that is needed, sometimes that drop may be shared between both feet. The oils are very concentrated and “uncut,” which means no fillers are added. The safest application is with Vita Flex or acupressure point applications on the feet.

Most therapeutic-grade essential oils should be diluted in a pure carrier oil. At home you can use good quality vegetable, olive or grapeseed oil. Young Living offers an oil blend called V-6, which was specially created for this purpose.

Reflexology

Reflexology is thousands of years old practice of engaging acupressure points on the feet or hands to relieve stress, illness, pain, and to stimulate mental, emotional, physical and healing and well-being in all body systems.

Reflexology changes the flow of energy in the body which builds resistance to stress, and improves circulation, the nervous system and by stimulating the body’s ability to rid itself of toxins.

In the human body knowledge of the “reflex points” has been handed down. Each tiny area of the foot, hand, face and ears connect via nerves and electromagnetic (Qi) energy channels (meridians) to a particular body organ system. The areas or “points” are stimulated by holding, rubbing, or pressing deeply.

Meridians also run through our 7 main “life energy” centers, called Chakras (Sanskrit, pronounced “sha-kras”) which are linked to our 7 main endrocrine glands, supplying the physical, mental and emotional energy there.

Vita Flex Technique

According to the Essential Desk Reference, Vita Flex Technique means “vitality through the reflexes.” It is a Tibetan form of reflexology that doesn’t put constant pressure on a contact point. It is a specialized form of hand and foot massage that is exceptionally effective in delivering the benefits of essential oils throughout the body.

It is said that Vita Flex originated in Tibet thousands of years ago, and was perfected in the 1960’s by Stanley Burroughs long before acupuncture was popular in Western medicine.

Vita Flex application of essential oils generates a tremendous response that sometimes produces noticeable effects within 1 to 3 minutes.

The chart explains in detail the foot pressure points. Recommendations about which Young Living Oils would be most beneficial for each point are detailed carefully below.
